Abstract
My study will evaluate people who
are homeless and the psychological aspects of how they view themselves in
relation to depression. This study will define the problem of depression among
the homeless in a localized setting and attempt to answer a valuable question.
Were they suffering from depression before becoming homeless, or is the very
act of being homeless leading to a diagnosis of clinical depression? A standard
questionnaire accepted by the American Medical Association will be used to measure
depression. In addition, a list of questions will be compiled relating to how
and when the subjects became homeless and the direct effect this has had on
their depression. This information can
help in implementing and expanding mental health programs in homeless shelters
and in the treatment of depression.
