Epistemology vs. The MATRIX
BY: BUCKLEY
Descartes and Plato are two of
the world's best known and most widely read and studied philosophers. In their
theories of knowledge they attempt to explain both what knowledge is and how we
come by it. But, although these philosophers had where knowledgeable and well
studied they are victims of their time. The ideas that they came up with are
diluted with the misunderstood science and logic behind them and it is my
belief that a better theory exist that is comparable to Descartes and Plato but
with a more modern explanation.
In this essay I attempt to
explain the simile of the line and as created by Plato and Descartes’ evil
genius theory by comparing them to a newer theory that has many similarities. This new theory is the one represented in the
movies and comics of the MATRIX. I
will compare how Plato divides the world in to two and explains the difference
between real and not real, and how Descartes says that we can’t prove that
anything is real to the Matrix.
