Sweet sixteen. Debuts. Coming of age.
Adolescence might as well be
considered as the heyday of life. Where you are free into doing mostly what you
wanted to do with lesser possibilities of handling great responsibilities such
as money and family. Where it is accepted that you could engage in social activities
and have the energy to interact and establish good relationships with people.
Being in high school,
and college also help you find yourself and be the center of everything. A time where you are past your cutie childhood days but not old
enough to handle bigger stuff.
But teenage years aren’t really seen
by all through rose-tinted glasses. Yes, it maybe is a liberating time, a
chance to express the perks of being free, or to explore the beauty of one’s
dreams. But for others, it means being pressured not only by the people that
they see everyday, but also by their inner selves, by the people that they love
and by the society that they try so hard to fit into. This paper explores the
side of puberty where lives have been shattered, hidden, or where every one
tried to coerce themselves for them to find the identity that they wanted to
have.
Yes, adolescence may be sweet. But
there’s just another side of the fairytale.
