Two Heroic Styles Collide
For
thousands of years two wonderful poems, the Iliad
and the Odyssey are attributed to a
famous poet named Homer and two of the main war heroes in these poems are
Achilles and Odysseus. They are both Greek warriors that fight in the Trojan
War and are revered as heroes among all of their people. When a
person reads these poems and digests how Homer describes each character’s story
in vivid and amazing detail, one can not help but believe that it must have
been written about actual war heroes and real life
events of that time. But how do these two heroes differ in their relationships
with the troops and their gods; how do they feel toward their fellow soldiers
and families; and what are their individual differences and similarities in the
story?
