Symbols are used in all aspects of
literature. One symbol can represent many different things to different people.
In Susan Glaspell’s play Trifles the main
symbol is a small pet canary. This little creature is used to represent the
contrasting views of different groups of people in the story. During a time
were isolation was a part of everyday life, a murder unfolds .With a farmer
dead and his wife as the main suspect, this seemingly uninvolved pet will hold
the answers for a murder investigation.
