There
are many ways in which a man can flirt with a lady. The men of the 17th
century were not so different from men today with the way that they talked
themselves into a woman’s heart. In Andrew Marvell’s poem “To His Coy Mistress”
a man tries to persuade a young lady to start a sexual relationship with him by
using sweet talking hyperbole, the urgency of carpe diem and the finality of
death to convince her.
