Abstract
This paper sets out to show that Shadrach A.
Ambanasom’s poetry expresses a romantic philosophical eloquence and an
emblematic inspirational celebration of beauty in finely conceived and artfully
crafted verses with Lady Zee as the driving force. It shows that the poetry
sets up a new category of verse with an ideo-aesthetic perspective that is against the general
current of Anglophone Cameroon poetry by delving into the subject of love and
romance at a time when the defining current is politics. Ambanasom seems to be
of the opinion that, even in the midst of political ‘bluderism’ manifested by
proto democratic leadership, the poet should find moments during which he can
return to the romantic thrill of his heart beat. Even when the pressures of the
present political dispensation cannot provide him liberal space to be romantic
he should fall back and draw some “romantic stirrings of a young man” from the
wellspring of his poetic imagination.
