ABSTRACT
This paper is primarily concerned
with discussing anew, the debate on the cultural identity of the African. It is
an exposition of the trends in the debate on the crisis of identity which the
African today finds himself. The paper traces the origin of the problem of
identity to the advent of colonialism and the incursion of Arabic/Islamic
civilization into Africa. It considers the
fundamental effects of this crisis of identity on the African as well as the
African society. The paper however
proposes the need to resituate the African back to his cultural heritage and at
the same time not loosing the trend of socio-economic and scientific
technological development at the world stage.Â
