Paper Abstract
A 20 page paper critiquing a therapy session with Rose, a concerned mother of a preschooler. Rose has approached Dr. Berenson for assistance with the problem of her five-year-old daughter waking during the night and expecting to spend the rest of the night with her mother. Dr. Berenson barely acknowledges the issue at hand, and never once does he offer Rose any practical, workable advice. Neither does he inform Rose that her problem is a common one, and that at her daughter's age it is approaching the point of curing itself. He interrupts Rose repeatedly. He does not listen, and he is impatient to gain control of both Rose and the session, not for the purpose of truly helping Rose, but more as a venue in which he can address his own needs for self-importance.
