The paper demonstrates
the various theories presented by the political scientists which suggest
different ways of maintaining civilian supremacy over military in nation
states. These theories may prove extremely useful in maintaining democracy in
third world states where the problem of military intervention in politics is
common. As such this paper should be of interest to a broad readership
including those interested in the fields of political theory and democratic
studies.
