The
Lady with the Dog
In “The Lady with the Dog,” the first
thing that we see in the characterization of the main character: Dmitri
Dmitritch Gurov, is that he is a man who has boring
life. His boring life mainly caused by his surrounding; his wife, his profession,
and the society of man. He considers his wife as an unintelligent,
narrow-minded, and inelegant woman whom he isn’t happy to live with. Also, he
has a profession which he doesn’t want to do, for he is interested in arts but
after he had taken his degree in arts, he had a post in the bank. Furthermore,
we are told that “In the society of men he was bored
and not himself, with them he was cold and uncommunicative; but when he was
in the company of women he felt free, and knew what to say to them”.
