STRATEGIES FOR MANAGING THE INCREASING DEMAND
FOR UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IN NIGERIA
Abstract
Over the years, there have been craves for university education among
ambitious youths in Nigeria.
Many candidates besiege the universities for admission annually with the hope
of sharing from the dividends of university education and becoming self-fulfilled
in terms of educational attainment. Unfortunately, while these candidates wish
to have their ways into the universities, statistics confirmed that they have
not been having the ways. In this paper, the issue of increasing demand for
university education in Nigeria
at the expense of the demand for admission into other tertiary institutions
like the polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, is examined. The
paper specifically examines the factors influencing the increasing admission
demand into universities and suggests measures towards the management of the
situation.
