Abstract
In terms of quality, higher
education in Nigeria
was rated by Ashby Commission of 1959 as one of the best in the world. Today,
available indices points to a degrading quality of higher education in the
country, which has been a concern of the education stakeholders. As the nation
is moving towards the next decade with all hopes on higher education as the
panacea to the nation’s problems, the paper examines the issues at stake in
higher education in Nigeria
and the possibility of receiving quality education in higher institutions amidst
the unresolved issues. Suggestions towards the redeeming of the lost glory of higher
education in the country are raised.
