Paper Abstract
An 8 page paper discussing the value and benefits of greater diversity sensitivity in the emergency room. Emergency room personnel must be able to communicate with each other and with patients, of course. Medical instructions and procedures must be well understood among staff members, and it is critical that staff be able to communicate effectively with patients if the patient is physically able. Further, mismanaged diversity issues can create conflict and lead to poor performance. Greater attention to cultural competence ultimately can lead to better patient outcomes.
