A Literature Review:
Best Family Preservation Practices in Child Welfare
There are several potential outcomes for children when a
family does not sustain healthy levels of functionality. Participation by
parents in family preservation services (FPS) is required when child welfare
investigations reveal substantial evidence that a child is being abused or
neglected in some form or another. In some cases, however, parents do not
comply with such treatment; because of no desire or inability due to an addiction
or other crippling problem. Acceptable compliance by parents and legal
guardians greatly reduces the risk of out-of-home placement of the child or
children (Littell and Tajima, 2000).
