Why is
underdevelopment a vicious cycle?
Underdevelopment has become a
vicious cycle through a variety of factors. The most predominant of which
being: a dual economy, low productivity, insufficient capital, and a lack of
human services. These four interrelated, mutually
reinforcing factors severely inhibit improvement in basic needs or economic
growth in most low-income countries and communities.
In a dual economy, the
upper-class live and eat well, while the lower-class
live where they can and produce just enough of their own crops to live on and
very little more. It seems nothing can
bring a change to this type of economy, not even industrialization.
