Hamlet
Critical Theory
In
literature, one sometimes encounters a character that is difficult to
understand at first glance. This is most certainly the case with Shakespeare’s
leading man, Hamlet. The greatest
evidence of his character traits lie in his dialogue around the play’s climax
in the third act. The reader can see in
his strange interactions with fellow characters that Hamlet is at very least
unstable. His flirtatious dialogue with Ophelia
and destructive relationship with his mother reveals his cruel, judging
character. Hamlet is irrational, his
actions determined solely by feeling. He
hates everyone around him and is angry with them by default until proven worthy
of his love.
