There
are definite differences in communication between genders and it has an effect
in everyday life as well as in the workplace.
The differences can compliment each other or can cause many issues. Many articles have been written that discuss
these differences.
Nurture
has certainly had a part in developing the different communication styles men
and women. In earlier centuries men were
viewed as and expected to be the providers whereas women were the nurturer who
took care of the home (cave) and family.
It has only really been in the last couple decade that women have been
given the type of opportunities in the workplace that men have and it has been
hard to break the glass ceiling. Some of
that difficulty can be contributed to the view of differences between men and
women including their communication styles.

often reach less favorable agreements than men.
Less assertive (more submissive) communications patterns were found with
women exchanging more disclaimers and interruptions than men during collective
bargaining sessions.
