Effects
and Influences of Music
Music
is more than just pleasure to the ears, it has inspired numerous movements and
cultures/counter cultures throughout time. It has the power to motivate,
captivate, and even heal or cure people of certain illnesses and ailments.
Almost
all of the genres of music were fabricated or influenced by what was going on
at that time in history. The
interchangeable genre of blues was developed by African Americans mostly, like
BB King, along with other white musicians such as Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray
Vaughn. “The Blues were a vocal and
instrumental form of music based on the use of
the blue notes.
It emerged as an accessible form of self-expression in African-American
communities of the United States from spirituals,
work songs, field hollers, shouts
and chants,
and rhymed simple narrative ballads.” (Deep Roots) Blues used simple chord patterns
on a guitar, and lyrics usually having something to do with a struggle, or
challenge but could have to do with something as simple as an old relationship breakup. “Most of the Blues players’ inspiration came
from the hardships they were going through in the segregation and civil rights
movement times” (Goertzen 1). “….
