Paper Abstract
This 10 page paper outlines the background and perspectives relative to what Sim Van der Ryn defined as ecological architecture in his book Ecological Design. Sim Van der Ryn recognized that the basis for architectural design was inherently defined by shapes and forms present in nature, and relates this through his theoretical perspectives on the architectural development of mankind. This view is then related to American settlements, including settlements in a number of regions in the United States, and the use of ecological architecture in these communities. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
