7 pages in length. In New Jersey, as well as in a few other states, laws providing enhanced penalties for drug offenses occurring near schools have become quite popular. Through sociological analysis, the writer discusses how these laws came to pass out of custom, social need, etc; A conclusive evaluation determines that the law's impact has not been what was originally intended and that more than anything, "Drug Free School Zone" laws have only created a new avenue for aggressive plea-bargaining.
