Is
the “Jerry Springer Show” Considered “Trash TV?”
Talk
shows have been around for many years and have come to be a part of peoples’
average daily lives. They serve as a
conduit for relaxation, entertainment, reprieve, and humor. There is rarely a time that one can turn the
television on without coming across a talk show. Unfortunately, there exists one talk show
that has caused a lot of controversy, The Jerry Springer Show, which has
brought a definition to the phrase “trash TV.” Trash TV is best described as
“television shows that incorporate lurid topics that usually deal with racism,
sex, the KKK, marital jealousy, and other gaudy subjects” (Wikipedia). It is the deprave
and grotesque actions of those who exhibit the qualities of unworthiness and nothingness
in a rude and crude manner.
