Three
prominent schools of thought arose in classical China, each having a profound
impact upon Chinese society. Legalism,
Confucianism, and Daoism all opened the Chinese public to very different and
potentially functional ideas for running a country. Their differences lay in the fundamental
perceptions of their founders. Legalism
is based on the belief that humans, at their core, are evil. Confucianism trusts in the goodness of human
nature; Daoism emphasizes the importance of nature, rather than of humanity. The prominent school of thought during the
