Betrayal of Words In Catullus 51.
             Catullus in Poem 51 conjures a
storm of emotions and feelings, jealousy, insecurity, illness, lust; all
deriving from obsession. His mind and bodily consummation with her in his
thoughts and in his actions serves as the inspiration for his poetry. She was
his muse, the woman he loved and loved to hate. She had the power or ability to
make him feel like a god and to somehow emasculate him at the same time. Her
effects on him are made extremely clear to the reader in Poem 51. Yet there is something
very different about poem 51 to his others.
Poem
51seems to be like many others by Catullus its portrayal of jealousy, lust and
obsession is a common theme for Catullus. They are the emotions and desires
