Paper Abstract
This 10 page report discusses the changes in the hockey world that have lead to the Americanization of what is essentially Canada’s “national pastime.” Hockey is quite simply what Canadians do in the winter: play it, watch it, follow it through the newspaper, television, radio. Canada's hockey system desperately requires is national leadership and a re-focusing of its priorities and its vision for the future if it intends to maintain hockey the way it claims it wants to. Increased government funding, stronger youth and development programs, financing from the National Hockey League and an improvement in the leadership abilities of the Canadian Hickey League are essential.
