“Paradoxically Speaking…”
In this essay, I aim to address two of Zeno’s infamous
paradoxes, and show that they contain a certain amount of fallacious reasoning
which renders them invalid and ultimately incorrect. Before I can properly
address Zeno’s paradoxes, I must first explain what a paradox is, and show how
these examples offered by Zeno meet the conditions required in order to be
considered paradoxes.
A paradox is
a statement or concept that is neither consistently true or consistently false,
for example, consider the statement “This sentence is false.” By assigning
this statement the variable “p,” I will quickly show you how the statement
leads to a contradiction
