Army
Leadership:
The
difference between managers and leaders
Compares
and contrast leadership and managements applying concepts to military
leadership and management principals.
Including an overview of the four functions of management.
(Into)Most
organizations have both leaders and manager, the United States Army is no
exception. Some will argue that there is
no difference between a leader and a manager; after all both are commonly
considered the leadership of an organization.
The fact is that the synonym for the word “leader” is manager, yet
leader is not a listed synonym for the word “manager” (Merriam-Webster,
2007). One can conclude from this that
leaders are managers, but managers are not necessarily leaders.
