Paper Abstract
A 3 page essay that analyzes Hamlet according Aristotelian principles for tragedy. In his book Poetics, the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle outlined his beliefs on drama and what constituted the characteristics of tragedy. Over the ensuing millennia, Aristotle's perspective has influenced countless generations of playwrights and also how the public understands the nature of tragedy. By examining a few of the factors that Aristotle considered crucial to tragedy, it is possible to discern what this great philosopher might have thought about one of history's most noted tragic plays, Shakespeare's Hamlet, which Aristotle would have undoubtedly endorsed as an exemplary tragedy of the first order.
