ADHD : Attention-Deficit /
Hyperactivity Disorder: School Aged Children
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder, more commonly known as ADHD, is a developmental disorder
characterized by difficulties in maintaining attention because of a limited
ability to concentrate and/or hyperactive/impulsive behavior. It affects “3 to 5 % of school aged children
and 4 to 5 % of adults (Wender, p.4).” For many decades, ADHD was just a set of
symptoms that were comorbid with many other
disorders, such as emotional or behavioral disorders and learning disabilities,
but in recent years it has been recognized as its own distinct disorder because
of its increase among individuals.
