Three Generations of Alcohol Abuse in Relation to Client Therapy
(7 Pages, 83.65 $ (USD) )
This is a 7 page study of multi-generation alcohol abuse in relation to a client case study. The client in this case study is affected by many stress agents which have been consistent throughout her 28 years of life. The single female client still lives at home with her family in a conservative religious household which has been dominated by her overbearing father who is a second generation alcoholic within his own history. The father smokes excessively with little consideration to others in the household. The client who is affected by second hand smoke nevertheless smokes marijuana herself and in a sense is the third generation of substance abuse. The family home remains cluttered and although they are aware of their daughter’s problems handling the home environment and her stress levels, they are not likely to change their situation. Analysis of Sher’s “Psychological characteristics of children of alcoholics”
(5 Pages, 59.75 $ (USD) )
This is a 5 page reaction paper to Kenneth Sher’s article “Psychological characteristics of children of alcoholics” (1997). In a analysis of Kenneth Sher’s article “Psychological characteristics of children of alcoholics” (1997), a good description of historical studies and categorizations can be found in regards to mental health issues involved in the study of children of alcoholics (COAs). In his article, Sher comments that despite the growing research in the area, results have been inconclusive and inconsistent and with examination of other research studies this claim has been found to be correct. Because of these inconsistencies, Sher basically does not try and tackle the controversial area of cause and effect of psychological characteristics in COAs but rather decides to adequately describe consistent characteristics found in COAs such as anxiety, depression and impulsivity among others. What Sher does not do extensively however is look at more of the research in the area which compares COAs psychological characteristic with those of non-COAs. When researchers have done this in more detail in their studies, it would seem that many of these characteristics may not be based on the fact that these are children of alcoholics but in fact that these are children of a negative role model environment and were not taught appropriate methods of coping and support. Three Strikes Initiative: Prop 184
(7 Pages, 83.65 $ (USD) )
7 pages in length. California may be leading the way in this particular area of law enforcement but at what cost? Clearly, the trade out for removing drug offenders from the streets is not equal to the exorbitant expenditure necessary to house these nonviolent, nonfelonious criminals. While other states may want to follow in California's tough footsteps, the expense to run their prison system as-is is prohibitive enough without adding minor drug offenders to the mix. Young, New Drivers And Their Abilities
(14 Pages, 167.3 $ (USD) )
14 pages in length. Drunk drivers come in all shapes, sizes and ages, but the most predominantly dangerous group that consistently gets behind the wheel is underaged youth. According to the Center for Substance Abuse Research, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, teens pose a particular threat to road safety, because they make up over half of all alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal accidents, as well as being responsible for more alcohol-related fatal crashes than any other age group. Moreover, this specific group of drunk drivers routinely demonstrates the highest blood alcohol concentrations; are nearly two times as likely as any other driver to have had at least one previous accident; have had their driver's license suspended or revoked four times more; and are the most resistant to change their drinking and driving habits. Studies have shown that the earlier alcohol is introduced to the system with regard to age, the more frequency of problems that will accompany the person as he or she gets older. Also significant to alcohol-related issues is if the person consumes a consistently higher amount every month and continues to do so without cutting back. Why are young drivers so significantly outnumbered when it comes to abusing alcohol more than any other age group on the road? Bibliography lists 20 sources.
