As drinking and driving continues to take many lives on an annual basis, two different formats are being used to control drinking and driving in Canada and the United States. Provincial alcohol boards and some alcohol distributors are now promoting the moral obligations and choices people must make when they drink. In addition, many believe that the laws reflect the moral and values of the population even though they may conflict with images of irresponsibility which are often promoted as well. The TeleHealth network is also used as a consultation service for specialists in urban centers to be able to assess cases which may be hundreds of miles away. The service also offers general confidential health advice in areas such as dermatology, cardiology, healthy lifestyles, psychiatry and teenage issues just to name a few. Since its introduction, the service has fielded nearly one million calls and allowed for a savings throughout the health care system which has essentially paid for itself. Comparison of Two Writings on the Seven Years’ War by Canadian Historians

This is an 8 page paper comparing two different articles by Canadian historians on the Seven Years’ War. Two articles by Canadian historians Peter MacLeod (The University of Ottawa) and Ian Steele (The University of Western Ontario) give two different perspectives on the Seven Years’ War in United States and Canada between the years 1756-1763. MacLeod gives an in depth narrative of the influence of the Catholic Church on the Canadian Iroquois and the Amerindians along the St. Lawrence River near Montreal. Although many people are aware that a strong alliance existed between the Iroquois and the French, MacLeod explains how deeply this connection is related to their ties through Catholicism. Steele’s article is an examination along with four other critics to the recently released Fred Anderson book on the Seven Years’ War. Although the critics admit that the book has made available information about the Seven Years’ War to a larger audience than was available before, they were “shocked” to discover that Anderson only used English sources for his narrative. After reading MacLeod’s history on the Iroquois in New France, it is easy to see how Steele is justified in condemning Anderson in his obvious exclusion of more personal and French accounts of the Seven Years’ War. In combination, both sources give the reader an idea what range of material is available on the Seven Year’s War and in many ways complement each other when taken together. Benefits and Costs of a Taxpayer Focused (Public) Healthcare System (Canadian Based)

Canadians currently appreciate the public healthcare system in their country mainly because the Canada Health Act guarantees free health care to anyone in the country. Despite this advantage over other countries in which patients have to pay for health care and may be turned away if they are unable to, the Canadian taxpayers also realize that health care costs are increasing and this will eventually become a burden on the average taxpayer. Rather than give up the public system for a private system or a two-tiered system which would create an inequality in health care services for the public, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) has offered a report outlining certain areas in the current system which could be modernized including the Canada Health Act. While keeping universal health care as a priority, the CTF believes that the new principles of the system should be public governance, quality, accountability, choice and sustainability in addition to structural changes that would allow for individual accountability measures, intergenerational fairness and a commitment to innovative technologies. The taxpayer would still be the central focus of the health care system while increasing the efficiency of the current system. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
