1. Developmental Psychology: Research on Adaptation   (8  Pages, 95.6 $ (USD) )
This is an 8 page paper discussing research on adaptation in developmental psychology. Within the field of psychology, adaptation describes “the process of change in organisms or species to accommodate to a particular environment, enabling their survival”. From a developmental, biological and sociological level, there are considered to be two main types of adaptive behavior: closed programs which basically are transmitted from generation to generation and remain relatively unchanged; and, open genetic programs which are greatly influenced from environmental factors (Gale, 2001). In addition, adaptation can be discussed in terms of individuals or in terms of how groups adapt to new environments. Often individual adaptation is studied in regards to the biological or physiological components which are carried from generation to generation and largely these factors are inflexible and remain relatively unchanged. However, there are many studies which examine how social or environmental factors can also affect adaptive behavior and increase the survival in new situations. These studies examine the cultural, family and socioeconomic relationships in groups and individuals and indicate that while initially some individuals may not be flexible or adaptive to new environments, positive adaptation factors such as strong culture bonds, strong family relationships and resilience can increase adaptability in individuals suggesting that individuals are flexible and can be highly adaptive in new environments; factors which increase their chance of survival. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

3. Sartre/Anouil & Greek Tragedy   (6  Pages, 71.7 $ (USD) )
A 6 page essay that contrasts and compares Jean-Paul Sartre's play " The Flies" and Jean Anouil's "Antigone, a Tragedy," which are both modern adaptations of ancient Greek plays. Examination of these plays demonstrates that, in both cases, a knowledge of Greek mythology, or of the original plays, is incidental to a modern appreciation of the productions. In both cases, the playwrights intended for their adaptations to focus on modern concerns within a present-day context. Where the playwrights differ, primarily, is in their perspective on the principal thematic thrust of each work. While Sartre endorses the concept of resistance to societal institutions that limit freedom, Anouil paints such resistance as basically futile and pointless. No additional sources cited.

4. Desert Life Adaptation   (30  Pages, 358.5 $ (USD) )
30 pages in length. Of all the ecosystems in the world, it can readily be argued that the desert's ecosystem is one of the most diverse on the planet. Comprised of myriad plant and animal life, the desert represents a cornucopia of activity in what would seem a most inhospitable place. Indeed, there has been a significant amount of evolution as a means by which this varied flora and fauna have been able to adapt to such a harsh environment, clearly demonstrating the fact that life can exist virtually anywhere. Clearly, the desert is not conducive for just any life form, but rather only those who have effectively undergone the necessary physiological adaptations that allow them to withstand extreme heat and cold. Indeed, it can readily be argued that heat is not the only prerequisite for desert environment, inasmuch as one can state that the arctic atmosphere is just as much desert-like for the reason that its water source is locked within the ice structures. Therefore, there are two distinctly separate entities of life forms that exist within the desert landscape: the heat-adapted and the cold-adapted. The writer discusses various adaptations for desert plant and animal life, as well as addresses the damaging influence of man's presence. Bibliography lists 30 sources.

6. Different Perspectives of Socialization within Society and The Development of the Concept of Self   (7  Pages, 83.65 $ (USD) )
This is a 7 page paper discussing the different perspectives of socialization in society in relation to self-image and adaptation. Socialization for individuals within society takes place from different perspectives as members of society change their roles throughout their lives and must learn the different socialization tactics related to each new role they adopt. Children and adolescents learn from the failures and successes within the socialization process which helps them to adapt to new stressful situations in addition to developing their self-image. Success in the socialization process creates a positive self-image whereas failures in the socialization process may lead to negative self-image. In addition to members within society adapting to new roles, which also include joining organizational institutions which use a variety of socialization tactics for newcomers, people from other cultures also have to learn various tactics for socialization within their new society. Sociologists advocate that society has developed a great many inequalities in the divisions between groups which exist and depending on the success or failure of adaptation through socialization, newcomers in societies will also form concepts of their self-image which may or may not allow them to conform and cross societal divisions.
