1. The Construction of National Identity   (10  Pages, 119.5 $ (USD) )
This is a 10 page paper discussing the construction of national identity. National identity is said to be constructed out of several key elements. Firstly, members of a nation construct their national identity out of a shared collective memory of historical events. Many of these memories are actually based on myth but that is irrelevant if these ideals are shared by all. Because of the “selective” memory used in the construction of national identity, desirable aspects of a nation’s history are promoted while less desirable aspects are forgotten or hidden to protect the perception of the national identity. National identity is therefore highly social and interactive between the members of the state, its political system and educational systems among others. Collective national identity may also be based on aspects of shared language or shared cultural and religious beliefs. The concept of national identity is ever changing which relates to social, historical and political changes within the nations and their relationships with other nations around them. Regardless of the dynamic nature of national identity, it cannot be easily forced or changed from the decisions of a few although in many ways, promotion of national identity or collective history and memory is evident throughout the educational systems and the use of national symbols. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

3. Soccer as a Type of Nationalism: International Perspectives, Soccer Fans and National Identity   (20  Pages, 239 $ (USD) )
This is a 20 page paper discussing soccer as a national identity as portrayed by soccer fans in different countries in addition to national pride and political perspectives. Soccer, referred to as football on an international basis, has become one of the most prominent symbols of nationalism within recent years. Whether soccer teams are representing local clubs, national clubs or are competing on an international stage, fans of the clubs are strictly devoted to their teams and identify with them on a national level. Sack and Seljan (2000) write that “a sport such as soccer provides opportunities for thousands of spectators to collectively affirm their commitments to beliefs, values, and myths than underlie their cultural identity”. In addition to the collective of fans at a soccer match, the presence of national flags, symbols, clothing and colors further unite (or divide in some cases) people who previously were strangers in a common bond of fraternity and national identity. Because of this powerful collective feel, it is not surprising then that often soccer matches and tournaments are used as political forums as well. Politically, soccer matches can be used to unite populations under a single cause or divide nations which may have historical differences. Nevertheless, soccer is overall a positive uniting force in a world in which people may often become isolated in their work or home environments. Soccer is the world’s most popular sport and countries all over the world have used soccer as a way to unite, promote, and celebrate their nationalism. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

4. The Impact of Globalization on Japanese National Identity: Can Japan Transcend the Nation-State?   (12  Pages, 143.4 $ (USD) )
This is a 12 page paper discussing the state of the Japanese national identity during the era of globalization. In the first thirty years after the second World War, Japan enjoyed a growing and successful economy within the structure of the nation state. Up until the 1970s and early 1980s, the positive economy also promoted a strong positive national identity within Japan. The Japanese economy “bubble” burst however after the introduction of the free market economy initiated by the U.S. and Britain in the 1980s. In the mid-1990s, the Japanese economy and its identity seemed to be in a national crisis when both the future of the economy and the national identity seemed to be in question. Since the end of the Japanese nation state, there have been several economic, educational and immigration solutions which have been considered which not only address the need to stabilize the economy within the era of increased globalization but also address the need for the maintenance and strengthening of the national identity as well. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
